FORMAT


Dance Majors, Dance Minors and Musical Theatre Majors with dance experience:

 

The following will be conducted in groups:

  • Ballet barre

  • Modern center and locomotor work*

  • Improvisation

  • Jazz combination

*Please note that a lack of modern dance experience

will not necessarily mean that a dancer will not

be admitted to the program.  Strong ballet

and jazz technique are required.

 

Dance Majors only have these additional requirements:

  • Two minute solo in Modern, Ballet or Jazz

(Bring music on cassette or CD.  No costumes.)

  • Prior interview with the Dance Coordinator.

 

CLOTHING

  • Leotard

  • Tights (footless, stirrup or convertible)

  • Ballet slippers

  • Jazz shoes

 

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION AND RESUME


A letter of recommendation from a current dance instructor is required.  It may be mailed to the Dance Division Director in advance or brought with you to the audition.  The letter should briefly address the student’s technical and creative abilities, degree of commitment, attendance habits and class attitude.

 

A one-page resume detailing the types of dance training is also required.  The resume should note:

  • The name(s) and address(es) of the studio(s) at which the student has studied.

  • The types of dance the student has studied.

  • The length of individual classes.

  • The number of classes per week that the student has taken.

A brief description of the type of performances in which the student has participated should also be included (names of individual dances are not required).

AUDITION RESULTS

  • November, February and April

Written results will be mailed within

two to three weeks of the audition.

  • August

Verbal results of the audition and

written class recommendations will be

given to auditionees approximately

30-45 minutes following the conclusion of

the entire audition (after faculty deliberations).

This will allow students to adjust and complete

their course registrations prior to

the start of the Fall semester.

Written confirmation of results will also be

mailed within two to three weeks of the audition.

Students considering the Dance Major at

Kent State University are strongly urged to:

  • Visit Kent prior to the audition!

You may schedule an appointment with the

Dance Division Director and observe classes

on the same day you arrange to tour the campus.

Arrangements should be made

as far in advance as possible.

  • Attend a performance!
