Dance Auditions and Requirements

To be admitted to the program, students must submit the following:

A Letter of Recommendation:
A letter of recommendation from a current dance instructor is required. It may be mailed to the Dance Division Director in advance or brought with you to the audition. The letter should briefly address the student’s technical and creative abilities, degree of commitment, attendance habits and class attitude.

Audition:
Auditions take place in Dance Studio D123 in the Music & Speech Center 1325 Theatre Drive between 2:00PM and 6:00PM.
Dates:
Saturday, August 27, 2011 (Registration must be received by August 13th)
Saturday, November 19, 2011 (Registration must be received by November 5th)
Saturday, February 18, 2012 (Registration must be received by February 4th)
Saturday, April 14, 2012 (Registration must be received by March 31st)
Results:
November, February and April auditions:
Written results will be mailed within two to three weeks of the audition.
Dancers auditioning should display strengths in the following:
Alignment
Flexibility, strength and endurance
Musicality
Vocabulary
Ability to pick up combinations
Ability to make corrections
Ability to persevere even if mistakes are made
Creativity
Movement flow
Sensitivity to energy, dynamics and force
Performance quality
Openness to new ideas
Enthusiasm for dance
Please bring the appropriate attire including:
Leotard
Tights (footless, stirrup or convertible)
Ballet slippers
Jazz Shoes
Audition Format
Ballet Barre and Combination
Modern Center and Locomotor Work
Improvisation
Jazz Combination
Majors only: 2-minute solo in Modern, Ballet or Jazz
